Councils reduce workers' holiday entitlement to 32 days a year

Senior council workers have volunteered to give up some of their annual leave entitlements.

It comes after it emerged that some local authority workers have 42 days holidays a year.

The County and City Managers Association said its members have agreed to take no more than 32 days holidays.

The Minister for Public Service Reform Brendan Howlin has described the generous entitlements as "out of sync" with the norm and has announced plans to standardise leave entitlements across the public service.
