A man will appear in court in Co Clare again next week charged with the murder of Deirdre McCarthy.

The 43-year-old woman's body was found washed up on a beach last Thursday, three days after she had been reported missing form her home in Ballyvaughan.

Earlier today 39-year-old Colm Deely, of School Road in Ballyvaughan, appeared before a special sitting of Ennis District Court.

The father of two young children replied when charged with the murder: "I am very sorry for what happened".

He was remanded in custody to appear in court again next Wednesday April 13.
