A man will appear before Ennis District Court later this morning, charged in connection with the murder of Clare woman Deirdre McCarthy.

The woman was found dead last week, three days after she was reported missing from her home in Ballyvaughan.

Deirdre McCarthy, aged 43, was last seen alive on March 27, after a night socialising in the village of Ballyvaughan in Co Clare.

Her family raised the alarm the following day, and her remains were found washed up at Fanore beach last Thursday morning.

It is understood that a postmortem showed she died a violent death.

A 39-year-old man was arrested for questioning in connection with the case last Tuesday.

The man is now due to appear in Ennis District court to be charged in connection with Deirdre's death later this morning.
