A 20-year-old Wicklow man is due to go on trial at the Central Criminal Court later in the week, charged with the murder of a shopkeeper in Arklow over a year ago.

A 20-year-old Wicklow man is due to go on trial at the Central Criminal Court later in the week, charged with the murder of a shopkeeper in Arklow over a year ago.

John Deasy (aged 44), a father of two, died after he was was stabbed at Brauder's shop on Coolgreany Road on November 25, 2009.

Anthony Farrell, of Marian Villas in Arklow, appeared briefly in the court this morning where he pleaded not guilty to murder.

A jury of nine men and three women was sworn in for the trial which is due to get underway on Thursday next.

The case is expected to take five to six days.
