A spillage of home-heating oil has sparked a public health alert in Co Galway.

A spillage of home-heating oil has sparked a public health alert in Co Galway.

The oil made its way into the public water supply in Carraroe and users are being warned to stop using tap water for drinking, washing or preparing food.

This applies to the Carraroe public water supply and the Camus group water scheme.

Galway County Council is to provide an alternative water supply today
