A teenager has appeared in court in Limerick charged with murdering a pensioner in the city earlier this month.

A teenager has appeared in court in Limerick charged with murdering a pensioner in the city earlier this month.

18-year-old Christopher McNamara from Good Sheppard Villas, Pennywell is accused of murdering James Boyce at his home at St Munchin's Street, St Mary's Park.

The body of the 72-year-old retired soldier was discovered on March 7 last after neighbours became concerned for his safety.

Mr McNamara, who was arrested yesterday, has been remanded in custody until next week.

Four other people who were also arrested in connection with the murder have been released without charge.
