Garda Ombudsman appeals for information after man found unconscious in cell
The Garda Ombudsman has appealed for information from the public after a man was found unconscious in a cell in a Garda station today.
He remains in a serious condition in hospital.
The man was detained by gardaí in Tralee, Co Kerry, after he was discovered lying on a roadway in the town shortly after midnight.
Gardaí were unable to wake the man, who is believed to be in his 40s, when they checked on him in a cell at around 9am.
He was taken to Kerry General Hospital before being transferred to Cork where he remains in a serious condition.
A Garda Síochána Ombudsman’s Commission spokesman said: “GSOC is appealing for witnesses who were present on Staunton Row/Princess Street at the time and in particular a male person who attended at Tralee Garda Station to report the matter to contact it at 1890 600 800.”
