A mentally ill Cork man who sexually assaulted his eight-year-old niece had told a doctor he needed sexual experience to make him better, the Central Criminal Court has heard.

A mentally ill Cork man who sexually assaulted his eight-year-old niece had told a doctor he needed sexual experience to make him better, the Central Criminal Court has heard.

The 39-year-old will be sentenced next week by Mr Justice Paul Carney. The court heard evidence that he was "extremely" and "almost continuously" psychotic at the time and was frequently admitted to hospital.
