Clare beach deaths 'a tragic accident'

Gardaí have confirmed that they are treating the deaths of two women in Co Clare yesterday as a tragic accident.

Post mortem examinations carried out last night have established that there was no foul play in the deaths.

Gardaí are now trying to establish the circumstances of the tragedy and are looking at the possibility that one woman had fallen into the water and the other woman went to her assistance.

Both bodies were found on rocks close to the shoreline at Whitestrand near Miltown Malbay yesterday morning.

Gardaí also believe they know the identities of the deceased but are awaiting formal identification.
