Man dies after Portlaoise road accident

Gardaí in Portlaoise are today investigating a single-car crash which claimed the life of a man.

The accident occurred on the M7 at Clonkeen at around a 12.45pm yesterday afternoon.

The man was driving the car when it hit the centre barrier of the motorway and came to a stop.

He was removed to Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise where he later died.

A post mortem is expected to take place later today.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have carried out an examination at the scene.
