Gardaí appeal for care on roads during weekend
Gardaí are appealing to all road users to take care this weekend.
Fifty people have been killed on the roads so far this year, an increase of 15 on the same time last year.
Motorists, pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists are being urged to take extra care.
Assistant Garda Commissioner in Traffic John Twomey says there should be no tragedy this weekend.
"We're asking all people over the Bank Holiday weekend to be responsible," he said.
"If they're out enjoying themselves that's what it should be - a period of enjoyment and there should be no tragedy or devastation wreaked on any family because of any irresponsible behaviour."
