Thieves impersonating gardaí to enter homes of elderly

A disturbing trend is emerging in parts of Kildare and West Dublin, where thieves are posing as gardaí to gain access to the homes of elderly people.

On Tuesday night in Caragh, two men called to the door of a home of two older people, claiming to be plain clothes detectives.

They manoeuvred their way in to the house and stole a sum of money.

It follows on from an allegation of a similar incident in Athgoe in West Dublin on Wednesday evening, which has not been substantiated by gardaí.
