The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that members of the emergency civil assistance team are on the ground in Tripoli Airport.

An emergency team will coordinate efforts to evacuate 40 Irish people still stranded in Libya.

The UN Security Council will meet today to discuss draft proposals for sanctions against Libyan leaders.

Anybody with information on the presence in Libya of any Irish citizen who has not already contacted the Department of Foreign Affairs is asked to do so by ringing 01-4180222.

Meanwhile, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Baroness Ashton, has said European countries want to see the Security Council take action against Colonel Gadaffi's regime.
