Man charged with murder of Marie Green

A man has appeared in court in Athlone charged with the murder of Marie Green.

Jimmy Devaney (aged 63), from Millbrook Avenue in Monksland in Athlone, was charged with murdering the 37-year-old at Tullycross, Moydrum, Athlone.

He made no reply to the charge.

The court was told he is a retired army officer. His solicitor has applied for free legal aid.

Mr Devaney was remanded in custody to appear in court again on March 1.

Gardaí searching for Ms Green earlier discovered human remains in bogland just outside Athlone town.
