Asylum and immigration seminar begins today

The Irish Refugee Council and the Immigrant Council of Ireland are holding a joint seminar on asylum and immigration law today.

They are calling for the establishment of an appeals system in Irish law.

Irish Refugee Council CEO Sue Conlon said that the current system is not completely objective.

"We’ve got lots of immigration decisions that are being taken that are only being reviewed by the officials that make those decisions themselves, which in any democratic society isn’t really the fairest system that you can have and it doesn’t really lead to an objective situation," she said.
