Prisons introduce new complaints system

A new system for complaints made by prisoners in Ireland's jails is being introduced.

Full details of the claim must now be entered in a new standardised journal.

The inmate making the complaint will get to liaise with Gardaí and will be kept updated on the progress of the investigation.

Management will also have to continue their inquiries, even when the complainant has been released from custody.
