Kenny to meet Merkel today

The Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny is to travel to Berlin today to meet the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

Mr Kenny said he welcomes the opportunity to meet with Chancellor Merkel as key decisions about the shape of Europe’s financial support system will be made in the coming weeks.

At the meeting Mr Kenny intends to discuss Ireland’s economic position and Fine Gael's five-point plan, and gain some insight into Chancellor Merkel’s perspective on the Irish situation.

The Fine Gael leader will also express his party's desire to re-negotiate the terms of the EU-IMF deal for Ireland if elected to government.
