Cork gardaí question three after fatal shooting
Gardaí in Cork are continuing to question three men arrested in connection with the murder of a 42-year-old man in Blarney.
Father of five Patrick 'Packie' Hogan was shot dead as he tried to escape from a gunman on the Glen Road near Waterloo Church.
He was shot by a man armed with a rifle as he and a companion tried to flee on foot after they were forced to abandon Mr Hogan’s van.
The attackers blocked the road in a silver Volkswagen Golf and started firing at Mr Hogan and his friend as they ran into a field. At least five shots were fired.
A post mortem examination revealed that Mr Hogan had suffered more than one gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Gardaí later arrested two men in their late 20s in Grenagh. A third man, also in his 20s, was arrested at Vicarstown.
The men are being questioned at Gurranebraher and Mayfield garda stations.
