Labour: Energy Retrofit Scheme could create 30,000 jobs

The Labour Party has said 30,000 construction jobs could be created with a National Retrofit Scheme.

The Labour Party has said 30,000 construction jobs could be created with a National Retrofit Scheme.

Launching their plan for Green Energy Jobs in Dublin today, the party said 1.2 million homes are in need of improving their energy efficiency.

Having regard to the lack of funding available for new schemes, Labour said that homeowners may have to pay for the retrofitting themselves.

Energy spokeswoman Liz McManus said ESB and Bord Gais have been approached to organise a scheme whereby people can pay for the cost of the retrofit on their energy bills.
