Cork man jailed for four years for assault of partner's sister

A Cork man has been jailed for four years at the Central Criminal Court for the sexual assault of his partner’s younger sister.

The 33-year-old man was convicted on the single count of sexual assault by a jury last December after over 12 hours of deliberation and a seven day trial.

He had pleaded not guilty to the abuse which occurred in his Cork home in 2004.

Mr Justice Paul Carney said he took into account the breach of trust in the case, the victim’s age and the invasion of her bedroom as aggravating factors.

But he said he balanced these against the man’s previous clean record and the fact he presented himself voluntarily to gardaí for interview.

He also directed that the man be given full credit for time already spent in custody on the matter.
