Mother appeals to be included in Neary redress scheme
A mother-of-two who underwent early menopause when her ovaries were removed by struck-off doctor Michael Neary has pleaded with the State to acknowledge her case.
Marie Reaburn said she suffered horrendously when the shamed consultant took out her reproductive organs as he removed her womb because of a fibroid.
The 58-year-old was never compensated because women aged 40 or over when Neary removed their wombs were excluded from a redress scheme.
Support group Patient Focus is campaigning for 35 women - including for the families of two who have since died - to be included in the programme, which could cost an estimated €3m.
