Cowen to face showdown over bank contacts

Taoiseach Brian Cowen was expected to face a leadership showdown today amid fresh revelations about his contacts with senior Anglo Irish Bank bosses.

It is believed that senior Fianna Fáil minister have asked Mr Cowen to step down as leader of the party.
