Fire Services want to take control of ambulance service

The HSE is being accused of not being able to cope with the level of emergency requests for ambulances in Dublin.

The Irish Fire and Emergency Services Association is calling for responsibility for such calls to be handed over to the Fire Brigade.

The group said patients' lives are being put at risk because ambulances are failing to reach them quickly enough.

Chairman John Kidd has written to the Public Accounts Committee urging it's members to intervene in the matter.
