Kinsale gas leak kills woman and puts five people in hospital

A woman in her thirties has died following a suspected gas leak at a hotel in County Cork.

Five other people are being treated in hospital for breathing difficulties after the incident at the Trident Hotel in Kinsale.

The woman who died had been a guest at the hotel and another woman who had been sharing her upstairs bedroom is in a serious condition at Cork University Hospital.

Two other women who were guests of the hotel were also taken by ambulance to hospital, while a further two people who stayed at the hotel last night presented themselves at Cork University Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters had to use breathing apparatus to enter the scene, where a forsensic garda investigation is underway.

The Health and Safety Authority will also investigate the incident.
