Woman in custody over death

A 32-year-old woman was in garda custody tonight over the death of another woman.

Officers were called to an apartment complex at Station Court Hall in Clonsilla, west Dublin, at around 9.20pm on Christmas Day.

They found a seriously injured 52-year-old woman and called a doctor but she died at the scene.

A woman was arrested at the complex and is being detained in Blanchardstown garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

It is understood investigators are treating the death as a domestic incident.

The dead woman was believed to be Lithuanian.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor David McGuinness branded the incident a tragedy for the area.

“It is not what people want to be dealing with over the festive season,” Mr McGuinness said.

“It’s a very tight-knit community there.”

The scene was sealed off to allow garda forensic officers carry out a detailed examination.
