The board of Allied Irish Banks has this evening decided not to pay the controversial €40m in bonuses to top executives.

Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan wrote to Allied Irish Banks (AIB) outlining that the payment of the required financial support for AIB will be conditional on the non-payment of bonuses awarded, no matter when they may have been earned.
