Cuffe: Climate change agreement a 'modest' step forward

The Minister with responsibility for Climate Change Ciaran Cuffe has said the UN climate change deal, which has been agreed in Mexico, represents a "modest" step forward.

The Minister with responsibility for Climate Change Ciaran Cuffe has said the UN climate change deal, which has been agreed in Mexico, represents a "modest" step forward.

Mr Cuffe, who is attending the talks in Cancun, has pledged a €23m contribution from Ireland towards the Global Climate Change Alliance.

Minister Cuffe fears time is running out for a binding international deal, which must be agreed by next year.

Friends of the Earth has said the agreement reached in Cancun "doesn't go far enough".
