The Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has said its "entirely impossible" for the Government to impose a tax on the €40m bonuses being paid to executives at AIB.

Mr Lenihan yesterday announced a 90% tax on future bank bonuses, but it will not apply to the AIB payments which arise out of contracts signed back in 2008.
