Motorists urged to take care despite big thaw
There is a thaw setting in across the country this morning, but motorists are still being urged to take care on the roads.
Temperatures fell to as low as -10C in parts of the North East last night.
Secondary routes and local roads remain treacherous, with solid ice and compacted snow the main problems now.
Nicola Hudson from AA Roadwatch says motorists should not become complacent as there is still black ice on some roads.
"It really can’t be seen, it’s practically transparent," she said. "The warning is still absolute caution is needed."
