A Belfast man shot dead a taxi driver in the city as he lay on the ground with his hands over his head, the Special Criminal Court in Dublin was told today.

Prosecuting counsel Mr Tom O’ Connell SC said that Gerard Mackin shot dead father of five Edward Burns (aged 36) after hijacking his taxi near the Springhill estate in west Belfast in March 2007.
