Commuters are being urged to leave the car at home and opt for public transport where possible as the cold snap continues to bite this morning.

Freezing temperatures and ongoing snowfall mean driving conditions across much of the country remain treacherous.

The forecast for the week is looking much the same.

Iarnród Éireann is advising customers that all Intercity, DART and Commuter services are operating fully, but Dublin Bus is warning of some disruption on its routes.

Bus Eireann is also advising of some disruption to school transport services this morning.

In particular, those operating on minor roads in counties Louth, Cavan, Waterford, south Wexford and Kilkenny may be subject to diversion and possible cancellation.

Also, the Dublin Airport to Rosslare Bus Eireann services will only operate to and from Gorey and the 8am Dundalk to Newry service is cancelled.

Intending passengers are being urged to check the website, transport.ie, before setting out.
