ESB supports plan to halve reconnection costs

The ESB has said it supports a proposal from the Energy Regulator which aims to throw a lifelife to householders who are struggling to keep up with their bills.

The plan would halve the cost of reconnecting after electricity or gas supply has been cut off.

The gap would be covered by the company - something a spokesperson for the ESB said it supports but maintains is "merely an interim measure".

The regulator also wants energy suppliers to review the level of charges they currently impose on customers.
