Man seriously injured in Belfast stabbing

A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in the stomach, police said today.

Detectives in Belfast are appealing for information after the incident on Thursday afternoon.

The injured 53-year-old went to hospital in a taxi before undergoing emergency surgery. He has since remained in intensive care in an induced coma, and his condition is described as serious but stable.

Police said they have been unable to speak to the victim to establish how he suffered his injuries.

A PSNI spokeswoman said detectives were keen to trace the man’s movements after he left a bar at Little Donegall Street at about 1.10pm and made his way on foot to the Divis Street/Falls area.

He arrived at the Royal Victoria Hospital alone in a taxi at 2.25pm.

The victim is described as about 5ft 6in, of medium build with closely shaven dirty fair hair and brown eyes.

He was wearing a dark jacket and white tracksuit bottoms.
