Jury discharged in murder threat trial

The jury has been discharged at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in the trial of a man accused of threatening to kill a woman in the city.

Martin Toland (aged 35), of Walkinstown Park, Walkinstown, had pleaded not guilty to threatening to kill Ms Roisin Nolan at Bunting Road, Walkinstown on June 25, 2009.

Judge Tony Hunt discharged the jury after one member said he had been approached by a person in the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning in relation to the case.

Although the jury member said it would have had no bearing on his objectivity in serving he would not disclose the nature of the conversation with the person who had approached him.

The trial had not yet heard any evidence in the case. The matter has been put back to fix a new trial date.
