The European Commission has approved the extension of Ireland's bank guarantee scheme for a further six months.

The European Commission has approved the extension of Ireland's bank guarantee scheme for a further six months.

Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said the move will give continued protection to €153bn worth of deposits.
