Sunday World apologises to former Sinn Féin Councillor

The Sunday World has today apologised to former Sinn Fein Dublin City Councillor Christy Burke regarding an article from May 2007.
It was reported by Paul Williams in the run up to the last election that there were alleged links between the IRA and criminal Christy Griffin.
It was alleged in the newspaper that Christy Burke put down the phone when appearing on RTÉ's 'Liveline' to avoid debating the issue with Paul Williams.
It was also claimed that Christy Burke was being untruthful when he said during the programme that he did not know Christy Griffin.
Today as part of an undisclosed settlement, the Sunday World admitted both of these allegations were untrue and apologised for any hurt, embarrassment and distress caused to Mr Burke.
