Up to 300 people including business chiefs, university professors, economists and artists are gathered in Galway today to plan a vision for the county’s future.

The unique symposium, entitled Galway 2040, aims to harness the views of a wide range of experts and members of the public on the region’s future, in terms of enterprise and employment, tourism, marine and rural development and culture.

The public event has been six months in the planning and is the first of its kind in Ireland.

Managing Director of Hewlett Packard in Galway Mark Gantly said Galway needed to project a positive image, and the event would help galvanise that.
