Dozens of firefighters were needed to bring a blaze under control at a historic mill in the North today.

The fire broke out at the front offices of a derelict industrial factory at the Herdman’s Mill in Sion Mills, Co Tyrone.

About 50 firefighters and nine appliances were sent to the mill, which featured on the BBC’s Restoration series.

The old B-listed buildings on the former linen-making site were unaffected by the outbreak.

Nearby residents were urged to shut all windows and doors because of the thickness of the smoke.
