The Tánaiste and Education Minister Mary Coughlan has today announced that it is her intention to replace FÁS with a new training agency.

The state training agency has been dogged with controversy after scandals regarding expenses and the running of training courses emerged.

The agency has a budget of more than €1bn a year.

"In addition to the restructuring of the higher-level sector, it is my intention that in the New Year, we will see a renewed and freshly-mandated training agency assume the training work of FÁS" she said.
