Green Party leader John Gormley is facing a showdown with a Government colleague by promising architects that recently enacted legislation giving status to the profession will not be changed.

Green Party leader John Gormley is facing a showdown with a Government colleague by promising architects that recently enacted legislation giving status to the profession will not be changed.

Mr Gormley said that he has been getting anxious queries from architects concerned about a proposed Bill by the former Ceann Comhairle John O'Donoghue.

That private members' legislation would allow people with certain skills, but not fully qualified, to describe themselves as architects.

However, the Environment Minister said via social networking site Twitter tonight: "It won't happen. Don't fret".
