Businessman remanded on sex assault charge

A businessman charged over an alleged sexual assault of a woman in north Dublin earlier this month was remanded on continuing bail today pending directions from the DPP.

The 49-year-old man had been charged previously with sexual assault of a woman, at Griffith Avenue, in Drumcondra on October 3 last. He had been charged at Dublin District Court the following day and was remanded to appear again today.

Garda Cormac McGill told Judge Denis McLoughlin that he was applying for a further six-week remand in the case.

The defence said there was consent to the application and the accused, who was wearing a dark suit and remained silent during his case, was remanded on continuing bail to appear again on November 29 next.

Bail in his own bond of €300 with conditions had imposed earlier requiring him to sign on once a week at Santry Garda station in Dublin, reside at his home address and to stay away from the alleged injured party in the case.

At his first court appearance on October 4 last, his lawyer told the court the defendant was a “businessman of impeccable character” involved in the aviation industry.
