Garda assault trial to start tomorrow
The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court trial of four gardaí charged with assault, forcible entry and trespass in the city two years ago will begin tomorrow morning.
Gardaí Sean O’Leary, Eoin Murtagh, Alan Conlon and Claire Delaney have pleaded not guilty to forcible entry, entering as a trespasser and assaulting Eoin Gaffney causing him harm at a premises on Basin Street Upper on February 17, 2008.
Gda Murtagh, Gda Conlon and Gda Delaney also pleaded not guilty to the false imprisonment of Fidelma Gaffney on the same occasion.
The gardaí are based in Kilmainham and Kevin Street Garda Stations.
Judge Desmond Hogan told the jury that the trial was not in a position to start immediately and asked the jurors to return tomorrow morning. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
