A 20-year-old woman was killed in a four-car collision at Ballymurragh, Newcastle West at 10.20pm.

Her death brings to four the number of people who were killed on the roads over the weekend.

A four-year-old boy travelling in a second car was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where his condition is described as not life threatening.

A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were also taken to hospital with minor injuries and have since been discharged.

The road was closed for technical examination overnight and has since reopened.
