Car hijack gang sought by police

Police are this evening hunting for three car hijackers who targeted a man in south Belfast.

The 34-year-old was assaulted during the incident in the Donegall Gardens area and needed hospital treatment for facial injuries, cuts and bruising.

He was parking his blue VW Passat TDI car at around 10pm on Friday when he was dragged from the vehicle by an unknown man.

He was beaten up before his assailant, another man and a woman jumped into the car and drove off.

The three sped away but when the vehicle was forced to slow in traffic at nearby Ebor Parade, the woman got out and fled on foot towards Boucher Road.

The car then drove off in the direction of Tates Avenue with the two men still on board.

It is understood that a number of people were in the area at the time and witnessed the incident and detectives said they are keen to speak with them as soon as possible.
