Man dies following Louth crash

A man died after a car crashed into a ditch, gardaí said today.

The collision happened on the Drogheda to Ballymakenny Road, about five miles from Drogheda in Co Louth, at 10.30pm yesterday.

There were four people in the car – two men and two women – and all were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Shortly after midnight, one of the men, aged 20, died. The other three were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road was closed to allow forensic crash investigators to carry out an examination.
