Lenihan denies suggestions of more severe budget

The Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has said it i too early to say whether a tougher budget will be needed as a result of yesterday's figures which indicated a contraction in economic growth.

The figures show that the economy shrunk by 1.2% in the second quarter of the year.
