Man arrested in Cork restaurant stand-off
Gardaí have arrested a Turkish man after a stand-off in a restaurant in Cork city tonight.
The 44-year old-man had threatened to burn the building down.
The man entered the Istanbul Restaurant on Oliver Plunkett Street at around 5.15pm with three other men.
He chained himself down in the dining area and threatened to burn himself and the building down.
Gardaí were called and persuaded the other three men to leave, but the fourth man threatened to ignite some cans of petrol inside the dining area.
A section of Oliver Plunkett Street was sealed off while a negotiator tried to talk the man out of the building.
Armed members of the regional support unit were also on the scene along with two units of Cork Fire Brigade.
The situation was resolved just before 9pm this evening when the man gave himself up and was arrested.
He has been taken to the Bridewell station for questioning.
No one was injured in the incident
