Garda Commissioner seeks report into PJ Sheehan incident

The Garda Commissioner is seeking a report into an incident involving a Fine Gael TD at Leinster House to decide whether further action is required.

Cork South West Deputy PJ Sheehan resigned from the party's frontbench yesterday after reports that he allegedly threatened the career of a female garda outside the Dáil when she tried to prevent him driving while he had been drinking.

The 77-year-old apologised to the garda for his behaviour.

Commissioner Fachtna Murphy said that while the matter had been dealt with by gardaí on the night in question in July, he had sought a further report into it, and would assess then whether further action were necessary.
