Engineering and electrical union rejects LRC pay cut recommendation

The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union has today rejected a Labour Court recommendation for a 7.5% cut in construction industry pay rates.

The executive of the union, which has 45,000 members and is the second largest union in the sector, has unanimously rejected the proposal.

Announcing the decision, general secretary Eamon Devoy said the union's members would not thank them for accepting the pay cut.

He said the union believed it would not contribute anything to the economy's recovery but would in fact depress domestic demand.
