Man killed in Galway road accident

A man in his 50s has been killed in a traffic accident in Co Galway today.

He died after being struck by a car on the N17 Tuam to Galway Road at around 4.30pm this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

The driver of the car did not require hospital treatment.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

The scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination.

Motorists are being advised that traffic diversions are in place.
